Range of Performance
Under direction of head physician Dr. Josef Schmitt our orthopaedic department offers 63 beds on two units.
We focus on the fitting of articular endoprothesis (hip joint, knee joint, shoulder joint) in cases of degenerative joint diseases (arthrosis), as well as in cases of a replacement of the endoprothesis, after fractures or tumors.
Furthermore, we offer a surgical treatment of the following orthopaedic disorders:
- Arthroscopic surgery of knee-, ankle-, and shoulder joint, including crucial knee ligament plastic and cartilage transplantation.
- Podiatry, surgical treatment of acquired foot deformities occuring on the ball of the foot, e.g. Hallux valgus, hammer-toe and claw-toe.
- Microsurgical disc operation after prolapse of an invertebral disc.
- Paediatric orthopaedic surgery in cases of foot deformities, e.g. club-foot, sickle-foot, correction of malposition like knock-knee, bandy leg, malrotation, shortened leg and limb extension.
- Sports traumatology, surgical treatment of all kinds of joint dislocations and tearing, stretching and ruptures of ligaments, e.g. crucial knee ligaments, meniscopathy.
Furthermore, we focus on sonographic examinations of newborns and infants to locate dysmaturity disorders of the hip joint.
A new topic in our department is spinal column surgery. Patients of the Clinic for Orthopaedics will be treated by our neurosurgeon Stefan Kelz, who assists other departments as neurosurgical consultant.
The Clinic for Orthopaedics has ist own department for physical therapy including a kinotherapeutic bath, therapeutical training, electrotherapeutics, thermotherapy, cryotherapy, and physiotherapy.
