Hospital Rules

An excerpt from the hospital rules of "Maria-Hilf"-Hospital in 1909

§ 2

The patients have to pay respect and obedience to the matron and the nurses.

§ 3

During the doctor's visit the patient has to be in close vicinity to his bed and has to act respectful and modest toward the doctor. The doctor's orders have to be dutifully performed.

§ 4

The doctor's visit, which will be announced by the ringing of the bell, takes place daily from 10 am to noon.

§ 6

Every patient is held to act decent, to be tidy and to take care of his personal hygiene. Every form of soil, especially spitting on the floor and scribbeling on walls, floors, stairs, books or other is strictly prohibited, as well as throwing things out of the window.

§ 7

Smoking is only permitted in agreement with the attending doctor's limitations. In the patients's room smoking is strictly prohibited.

§ 8e

... the secretive procure of brandy is strictly prohibited.
